Engineering a Future-Ready, High-Efficiency Bayer Data Center
For the global pharmaceutical giant, Bayer Healthcare, Genesis AEC delivered a state-of-the-art data center, covering both the immediate needs and future expansion prospects of Bayer’s expansive 700,000 SF corporate headquarters.
The Genesis team established the robust and efficient mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) infrastructure in alignment with Bayer’s high standards, integrating these critical services and optimizing their performance and reliability.
To enhance safety and minimize damage in case of a fire, we implemented preaction and clean agent fire protection systems. These help preserve the overall data integrity and ensure business continuity.
Genesis also designed the electrical infrastructure with adaptability in mind. Initially set up to support a server deployment of 95 KW, we future-proofed it to handle an additional IT load growth of 80 KW. Redundancies were a focal point of the design, with redundant utility power feeds ensuring backup power sources. Including a 2N Generator and UPS guaranteed constant support for the IT load of 170 KW, even during power outages.
The pharmaceutical data center’s cutting-edge mechanical systems were also a key consideration. We configured the design of the computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units as N+1, providing a backup cooling system to prevent server overheating. Proper cooling was recognized as essential, not only for maintaining the IT equipment’s lifespan, but also for preventing potential data losses.
Genesis’ commissioning and construction management played a pivotal role in the project’s success. Our team supervised execution phase, ensuring that the design was accurately translated into reality, delivered on-time, and within the designated budget. This step was of paramount importance to ensure that the final data center met Bayer’s specific requirements and adhered to industry best practices.
