Viral Vector Plant
Vinta Bio sought to create a world-class viral vector biomanufacturing facility at the historic Philadelphia Navy Yard. Their goal was to transform a 23,000 SF existing space into a state-of-the-art manufacturing hub, all within a tight timeframe. To bring this vision to life, they enlisted the expertise of Genesis AEC.
The project’s highlights and features were numerous. The strategic placement within the Philadelphia Navy Yard establishes Vinta Bio’s facility as a pioneering force in biomanufacturing. The design initially focused on creating a pilot plant capable of accommodating up to three simultaneous productions, primarily focusing on Lenti or AAV vectors. However, ensuring adaptability, Genesis adjusted its strategy to solidify the facility’s readiness for more extensive manufacturing endeavors in the future.
Flexibility was a core principle in the facility’s design. It certainly encompassed an array of unit operations, ranging from adherent cell processes in roller bottles and cell factories to vial filling and production scales below 50L. This versatility was paired with the ability to swiftly incorporate new processes and technologies, altogether ensuring that Vinta Bio could readily embrace change and innovation.
Regulatory compliance and cost efficiency were paramount. Vinta Bio’s facility adhered rigorously to the stringent guidelines set by the FDA and EMEA, ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety. When crafting the facility, we struck a delicate balance between creating world-class infrastructure and respecting budget constraints. The result was a facility that optimized costs without compromising on quality or functionality.
Innovative construction methodologies were integral to the project’s success. Specifically, our team employed lean approaches like pull-planning and Just-in-Time (JIT) deliveries, along with pre-fabrication and modularization to meet the project’s aggressive timeline. These techniques ensured efficiency and precision throughout the construction process, ultimately contributing to the realization of Vinta Bio’s cutting-edge viral vector biomanufacturing facility.
